Nikol Lake is among the identified important lakes of Ahmedabad situated near Nikol Gam, established 900 years ago.

In addition to that, the lake has cultural, environmental and domestic significance. There are structures nearby which have functions attached to the lake.

The main aim of the project was to preserve the existing ecosystem as well as facilitate neighbourhood activities.

Project Note

Major improvement for the lakefront was proposed on a vacant part of land adjacent to the lake.

Three of lake edges are also in proximity to low flow monsoon waterbodies on land which can be used to connect surrounding activities.

Continuous informal pathways for pedestrian connectivity were laid out to connect access and generate various levels of experience with the lake.

Existing concrete focused protection works were replaced with flexible materials that allow for biodiversity.

This part of the lake has been kept reserved as bird habitat as it can sustain itself.
