Keeping heritage at the centre of the urban development, HRIDAY scheme focuses on development of civic infrastructure leading to revitalisation of the cities as heritage and cultural destination. Dwarka is one of the 12 cities selected for development under this scheme.

It is one of the Char Dham, and one of the Saptapuri, the seven most ancient religious cities in the country.

Dwarka is often identified with the ancient kingdom of Krishna, and is believed to have been the first capital of Gujarat.

The city has heritage assets in the form of temples, dharmshalas, kunds, talavs, and havelis dedicated to Lord Krishna.

A total of five heritage sites have been selected for development at present for HRIDAY in 2016.

Dwarkadish Temple (1) is one of the Char Dhams of the Hindu pilgrim circuit and has the most important public square of the city. Iskcon Gate (4) and Teen Batti (5) are major access routes from the highway to the temple.

Vegetable Market (2) is an important public place in the city and is also a central point for food joints as well as local transportation.

Siddheshwar Mahadev (3) is also a tourist attraction and is largely used by sadhus and local people for offering prayers.

DPC was involved in developing detailed design for public amenities, improving civic infrastructure and tourist facilities around identified heritage sites.
